  • Backup Strategies and Completion Time:

We have an Exchange 2007 SP2 RU5 environment running CCR on Server 2003.

I have 46 storage groups with 1 database in each storage group.

    Databases average 71GB in size.

We are using a disk to disk backup strategy that uses an Avamar (EMC) aware backup client on the mailbox servers.

We are currently seeing about a 50GB per hour backup rate and are trying to speed it up.

Can any of you share some of your backup performance numbers and strategies used?

Re: Backup Strategies and Completion Time:

JMeyer5241, my backups for Exchange 2007 SP1 and SP3 average around 95GB/h writing to a Dell LTO3 tape drive over a 100MB network. I have two databases at 35GB each and use the Backup Exec 12.5 remote agent on the server. Exchange is installed on Windows 2008 Server STD SP2 64-bit using a Dell Poweredge R300 box. Media Server runs the same OS on a Dell Poweredge R710 with 2 CPU's and 16GB memory. Tape autoloader is SCSI attached to media server.
