  • Email relay considerations

Hello, I am seeking for the best solution to configure MMS to Email for my organization. I currently have a single Exchange 2010 server hosting Hub Transport, Mailbox and CAS roles.

I have a development team who would be developing a solution to enable subscribers push MMS messages from mobile phones to external email addresses. (MMS---> EMAIL). The team have proposed to use the existing email server for relays.

I am doubting if the exchange server can handle the load of these request and also if it wouldn't compromise the corporate security policy.

I am suggesting if it would also be possible to install an SMTP Server role in my organization, to handle the numerous requests.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi,

Should not be an issue, what are your server specs and how many user base do you have?

for setting up relay you can follow the below mentioned article.

      Re: Email relay considerations

Exchange makes a poor bulk email tool, so I would be looking to use something else for the job. Give it its own IP address, MX record, PTR etc so that any problems don't impact on your business email.

Thanks for the replies, but how do I give it a separate IP to route traffic just for the sms push? Is it by using a private IP?

If you have multiple external IP addresses then that is something that your firewall does via its NAT configuration.
