  • Best way to go from Exchange 2003 to 2010?

I am looking for the most seamless, best practice etc. to go from existing 2003 exchange server to 2010. Am not looking to have a co-existence permanently.

I will have single exchange server with:

    Client Access server role
    Hub transport server role
    Mailbox server role

will have users using the CAS for RPC/https
will be moving bes from old 2003 to 2010
will be using outlook anywhere(new owa)

also have a UC Cert, with names needed.

This new exchange 2010 server will take the public IP of the old 2003 server once everything has been moved.

I am thinking I will not have to reconfigure rpc/https client side but if anyone can chime in on this that would be great as well.. Should I have to I have a script that will do this.

You can't do a permanent co-existence with a single IP address.

Exchange 2010 doesn't proxy Exchange 2003 traffic, it only redirects. Therefore you will need a legacy URL for the Exchange 2003 server, which will need its own host name and as such its own IP address to use SSL.

Outlook Anywhere is not the new OWA. Outlook Anywhere is the new name for RPC over HTTPS.
If you want to use the new OWA then the users will have to be on Exchange 2010.

      I can't speak for Exchange 2010. but I have Exchange 07 and 03.
I installed Exchange 07 into my environment then set 07 as FE and 03 BE.
everything will go thru to 07 and it will route to users database whether 07 or 03. it also works with Outlook anywhere and ActiveSync.
I will slow my move my 03 users to 07.

      Thanks,
      HN

I am only looking to co-exist as I do the cut-over. My spam filter queue email should the mail become unavailable.

I have a 2003 exchange environment that I will be moving to a 2010 environment on new hardware. This will be a weekend project.

Looking at the best practice to go from 2003 to 2010. I like to pull ideas, thoughts etc. from all resources.

Basically I am crystal clear about everything up to moving the mailboxes from Exchange 2003 to 2010.

It's the final steps of decommissioning the Exchange 2003 server that I could use some insight on...

          offline address books
          email address policies, etc.

As I normally do please disregard... I think I was over complicating it... Got it - thanks!
