  • When OL2007 starts it keep prompting for a password

    Hi all,
at my work we use SBS2008 and exchange 2007
    workstations are all winXP

when a user start outlook 2007 he is prompted with a login window
regardless what password is used or user name.

if i press cancel and i ignore this window ol2007 work just fine, and is
    connected to the exchange server.

my target is to stop this popup password//login window.

    background:
we had an old sbs 2008 server that made non stop problems, we decided to
reinstall a new server beside the old one. we transffered all exchange mailboxes to the new sbs 2008 server and later on we DEMOTED it, so no more AD on the old sbs2008. we changed the DNS to another ip and made sure the new server has the same domain name, exchange setup and mails, same dns and so on. basicly you can say that the new server is a mirror of the old one. everything worked good. the only problem we got now it this login window that keep poping up when ol2007 is loaded by a user at the workstation.

any idea what to look for?

    Check here:

Tools, Account Settings, Double click name, then More settings, then Security tab.

Verify if the "Always prompt for logon credentials" box is checked. If checked, uncheck.

You can set up Outlook to connect to Exchange via HTTP and this box is sometimes needed for it to work if you're not on your network and trying to connect. If you're already logged into a domain or whatever, then the box will still pop up but it's not necessary because you're already authenticated.

Primary cause of this is Autodiscover isn't working correctly and is looking at URL that you aren't expecting it to. The prompt always appears and never goes away because it isn't your server that is prompting, but an external one.

Primary test: Hold down CTRL while you right click on the Outlook icon in the system tray. Choose Test email auto configuration. Run the test. Verify the hosts that are coming back are correct and resolve to your SBS server, and not to an external host.

Simon: Would that be the Outlook Anywhere check box you're referring to under the Connection tab and that he/she needs to simply un check it?

If so, is there a way to push out some sort of Outlook policy change to do it for all users?

          No.
Autodiscover is something else. It is how Outlook gets its configuration information and is also the availability service. This isn't something that you can turn off, you have to fix it, if that is the cause of the problem. Autodiscover is not an optional setting.

Re: When OL2007 starts it keep prompting for a password

I have a Windows 7 user having the exact symptoms of Password prompt on outlook 2007 startup. Have validated no errors in email autoconfig test and that security is not set to prompt for credentials. Only began happening two days ago but is consistent. Any ideas as to where to go next?
