  • two exchange servers

Hi Guys, bit of a broad question, here but even if someone could just point me towards more information I would really appreciate it.

I'm going to setup a second Exchange server at another site, connected via 10mbit wan link.

I goal is to setup DAGs and replicate my exchange database to a second server that is setup to be passive for redundancy.

what I am a little confused about is, when installing the second exchange server, I will be setting up the CAS role as well so i can switch to this server for DR.
however I dont really get how i have two CAS, how would i tell all my clients that it was the active server in a DR? would i have to just modify my internal dns records? that seems a little clunky doesnt it?

    thanks in advance.

You will need a CAS array to deal with the change of the clients.

The switch over - DNS record is what you change if you don't want to invest in a third party load balancer. You can't use NLB unless you have separate CAS servers.

If it is only for DR purposes, then changing the DNS record is not exactly a big deal.

Can you have a cross site CAS array? For some reason I am thinking it is site specific

The CAS array is site specific, but you can point the CAS array at another CAS server in the other site if you have to.
