  • Can We Disable OWA on ActiveSync Server

    Hi,

We are having Exchnage 2007 enviornment running in native mode. We had setup a new CAS server to serve as ActiveSync server but it has enabled the OWA for all the users over public internet.

We can not disable OWA access at user level as they need to use it on internal network, neither we are in position to deploy ISA server as I came across that using ISA we can restrict OWA while using the ActiveSync.

Is there any way to disable OWA and still continue to use ActiveSync by doing some twiking in IIS or by any other way?

    Thanks,
    Kapil Sharma

    No.
An ISA/TMG server would be your only option here as you want to use OWA internally.
If you attempt to block OWA through IIS then you will break ActiveSync.

Re: Can We Disable OWA on ActiveSync Server

Well, putting ISA/TMG will fit best when allowing remote access to an Exchange server from the internet...

But as far as a "workaround" you could add an additional IP to the server, add a second website, setup only ActiveSync dir on that website; http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...CHG.80%29.aspx

so you'll end up with 2 ip's for that CAS server, with two websites at the IIS level:
1 site serving all webservices (for internal) 1 site serving only activesync

change DNS records and i this should work nicely.

      Good Luck !

Thanks for your suggestion.. That gave me the direction but found a better workaround for my problem:

As we are using IIS 7.0 so I used IP/Domain restriction component for achiving this.

What I did was for OWA and Exchange virtual directories I restricted the access for internal subnets only and it worked like a charm..
