  • Exchange 2010 SP1 OWA not auto checking for new mail

Hi all, is there a setting for OWA 2010 to set the check for new mail/page refresh?

At the mo my OWA just sits there until i click the "check for new mail button".

    Any ideas?

I never had to click to check for mail in our previous Ex2007 OWA . It's not really acceptable to have users clicking the check mail button all day.

ok. looks like my current EX07 scenario requires that I click check for new mail.
And I know at my previous EX03 employer, you had to refresh the page.

Nothing needs to be configured on the server. OWA should alert you that there is new email. Not every part of OWA will refresh, but as soon as you start using it again it should do.

Ensure that the notification settings are configured as required in the Options screen, but the default settings should notify. They certainly do on the servers I have implemented.

Cheers Simon, I've done some further testing and it takes about 20mins for a mail to show up.

Is there a setting somewhere that can change this down to about 2 mins?

That isn't standard behaviour, and as such I am not aware of any setting that needs to be changed in Exchange. I have deployed many Exchange 2010 systems and OWA will provide the alert shortly after the message has arrived. Something must be blocked the alert, but I have no idea what it would be. If it is that critical you may have to call Microsoft, as they can look at your system.

ok, thanks for the info, I suspected it wasn't normal. I'll try MS and update you if I hear anything.

Quick update: I brought a new server online and its OWA worked with near immediate response to new mail. So I had to move everything to the new server and then rebuild the rest of the exchange farm from scratch...
