  • OL2010/EX07 connecting via OWA

I have a client running a single Exchange 2007 server, with several users running outlook 2010.

The users with Outlook 2010 have a connection to the Exchange 2007 configured from within the office, using Cached mode. It is initially setup as a direct connection to the server (call it server02 for instance)
    The name resolves correctly.
the account is configured as an MS Exchange account.

we then go back into accounts and it says "access this account via the web https://server01.internal.local/

The internal, self signed certificate is out of date, which is obviously causing problems

Replacing the certificate with another ssc would sort it out, but what I want to know is why it's doing this?
We're not using OA - I've made sure that's not configured.

    any ideas ?

That URL is the OWA URL. It isn't actually connecting via that URL. It is telling you what the OWA URL is.

any ideas why it's prompting me to accept a certificate then, and only for some users ?

That is how Outlook 2007 and higher communicate with Exchange 2007 and higher for certain tasks such as autodiscover and the availability service.
You cannot operate Exchange 2007 without SSL certificates, the entire product is built around around web services and SSL is used to secure that.
