  • Remotly sending cmdlets to exchange 2007

    Hello all,

Does anyone know if it's possible to send cmdlets from a computer to remote exchange server 2007? maybe using WinRM?

I'm using exchange server 2007 installe don Win2K8 server 64bit.
I tried installing PowerShell 2.0 and WinRm 2.0 but so far I get this message:

Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message :
The WinRM client sent a requestto an HTTP server and got a response saying
the requested HTTP URL was not available. This is usually returned
by a HTTP server that does not support the WS-Management protocol.

    Thanks...

Some commandlets support remote computers. Usually they provide -ComputerName switch, which you use to specify the target computer system. Hint: type commandlet -c and press tab to cycle through all the switch parameters that start with c.

If a commandlet doesn't offer such a feature, you can use remote Powershell sessions. A remote PS session is just like a SSH connection into any Unix box. This requires Powershell 2.0 at both endpoints. In addition, log on to the server and run winrm quickconfig and abswer yes to the prompts.

After you have enabled WinRM, launch a Powershell session in your workstation. Then
    Code:
    $s=Get-PSSession -ComputerName someRemoteServer
    Enter-PSSession $s
    # work in the remote session. load Exchange modules for Exchange cmdlets.
    Exit-PSSession
    Remove-PSSession $s
I've used this technique to create some WinForms GUIs for other admins. They use the tools for managing NLB and ForeFront. Even authentication is done via some trickery so the GUI users are not running privileged accounts.
