  • Error installing Exchange 2010

    Hey,

I've installed Server 2008 R2 64bit and then ran dcpromo (all under VMWare).
There's no lan or wan and I don't care about things not working - I just want to see and test setting and configuring stuff.

Next, I started installing Exchange 2010 and got this error :

    Hub Transport Role
    Failed
    Error:
    The following error was generated when "$error.Clear(); $vdirName = "PowerShell"; $InternalPowerShellUrl="hxxp://" + $RoleFqdnOrName + "/powershell"; new-PowerShellVirtualDirectory $vdirName -InternalUrl $InternalPowerShellUrl -DomainController $RoleDomainController -BasicAuthentication:$false -WindowsAuthentication:$false -CertificateAuthentication:$true -RequireSSL:$false;" was run: "An error occurred while creating the IIS virtual directory 'IIS://WIN-I7QM3CQOJCU.auphyr.no-ip.org/W3SVC/1/ROOT/PowerShell' on 'WIN-I7QM3CQOJCU'.".
An error occurred while creating the IIS virtual directory 'IIS://WIN-I7QM3CQOJCU.auphyr.no-ip.org/W3SVC/1/ROOT/PowerShell' on 'WIN-I7QM3CQOJCU'.
Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Web.Administration, Version=7.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

What's the problem and how to fix it ?

    Thanks.

I don't know, I'm new to this but - Isn't it installed by default with Server 2008 ?
Anyway, I installed all options for IIS that weren't and it installed fine.

How do I get to see options / configuration / users in exchange ? the queue and stuff ? (if possible if not LAN or WAN)

      Thanks.

No, IIS roles are not installed by default. you can do this via Server Manager.

Once Exchange is installed, then you can manage/view things using the Exhcnage Management Console or Exchange Management Shell

error 500 basically means the IIS server is not providing the detail correctly.

I'd suggest you start again - blow away your server, then have a read of some of the guides and make sure you install things in the right order..

Will do but somehow I think if this was real life issue you wouldn't install a server all over again

I've definitely seen posts from Sembee where he recommends this, even for real life scenarios..

                  Re: Error installing Exchange 2010

                  Yes.
A server fails on the first install, I rebuild it. I don't tolerate any failures on the installation. That is why I have a 100% success rate on installations.
You have no way of knowing what else has gone wrong. Exchange should install correctly first time. If it does not, then there is a fairly significant problem.

Also, the installer likes to be able to see the Internet, so you should ensure that it has that.

Did you actually read the pre-requisites document from Microsoft? It explains exactly what is required to install Exchange.

As already suggest, I would trash the virtual machine and do it again.

                  Simon.

                    Re: Error installing Exchange 2010

I did reinstall Server 2008 and Exchange (following instrcutions) and I keep my fingers crossed, Thanks !

Well, I get a different error this time :

                    Hub Transport Role
                    Failed

                    Error:
The following error was generated when "$error.Clear(); install-ExsetdataAtom -AtomName SMTP -DomainController $RoleDomainController" was run: "An error occurred with error code '2147504141' and message 'This property can't be found in the cache.'.".

An error occurred with error code '2147504141' and message 'This property can't be found in the cache.'.

Quick search through google says it has something to do with IPv6 and/or static IP address (Or something about time sync?).

                            Hello auphyr,

Maybe my case can help you out. TO be able to successfully install Exchange 2010 i had to do:

                            http://serverfault.com/questions/147...sabled-enabled
                            http://serverfault.com/questions/146...d-fails-to-run

Although Sembee is great in offering clean installs all the time but very often it's really not available. So in my opinion:
                            - remove exchange (using normal uninstall procedure) and if it fails use the manual unsupported steps (http://serverfault.com/questions/146...d-fails-to-run) to remove it (or reinstall server from scratch if you can).
                            - follow the steps from link
                            http://serverfault.com/questions/147...sabled-enabled

When i did that Exchange installed without problems. Before I've done like 10+ tries with different settings and none worked. It seems GUI is only doing half of what it should, and not always work for everyone.

                            Good Luck

I read that the IPv6 is not really the issue and not recommended to change it.
