  • Thoughts and comments on 3rd party archving solutions

    Hey All,

Do to reglatory compliance the need has come up to implement an email archiving solution for our company and I was hoping to solicte some feedback/opinions from those of you who use a 3rd party archiving system. I am hoping also to get thoughts on the pro's and con's of going either with an applianced based option or software based package (using a hosted based solution is not an option for us).

I have down some research and came up with this list of potential options (just from my own reading, any additional suggestions are welcomed):
    Barracuda Message Archiver
    • GFI Mail Archiver
    • Cryoserver Email Archiving Appliance
    • Jatheon
    • Sherpa Archive Attender
    Thanks in advance,

    -Jason

    You have missed one.

    Exchange 2010.
Archiving is now an option in Exhcange 2010 as well. Well it has been there all the time, but SP1 introduced being able to locate the archive in another database.
Although to access the archive natively requires Outlook 2010 or OWA.

GFI Mail Archiver works well, I have a few sites using it. Cannot comment on the other three as I haven't used them.

We like using Symantec Enterprise Vault (EVault). Im told that alot of law firms use it as well. Best thing is gooooodbye pst's.

We did alot of research and it was the best for an enterprise class product for us.

The new 2010 stuff looks interesting but we are just getting to 2k7.

I've used PolicyPatrol for internal archiving (easy to store but difficult to retreive) and Messagelabs for external -- $$$

Eventually it comes down to budget but if it is a compliance issue the bean counters will have to find some dosh somewhere

          All,

          Thanks for the feedback!

Sembee - Thanks for the info on GFI. We are currently trying to setup a demo/eval of the software.
