  • OAB Schedule

    Hi ,

We are using exchange 2013 and outlook 2013.

My outlook users are using cache mode ..and due to that some users are not able to see the users in the GAL.

After removing the oab files , the users are showing in GAL but the problem is I can not delete the OAB files manually in all 100 system..so i want to make this possible using exchange 2013.

Is it possible , that I can make exchange 2013 to force the outlook users to update their oab in their local system..

using this command i change the schedule to every 6 hours but what is the command to check the current schedule..

    Thanks..

    Short answer.
    No.

The OAB regeneration can be changed, although for 100 users I wouldn't bother as the changes cannot be that frequent.
However the downloading of the OAB cannot be changed - it is either once every 24 hours (if Outlook is running constantly) or shortly after Outlook is started.
You can force the download through the Send/Receive menu as well.

So , Is there any solution that my 100 users will be able to see those recently created users in GAL..as if i am removing oab files manually they are able to see..but its a big task to remove oab from 100 users..

Train them how to download the OAB themselves, or for HR to send out a regular email introducing new users (with their email addresses) For 100 users, is it worth the effort?

          Hi ,

Thanks for the quick reply ..

So , is it the only way that , I need to download the oab in their machines manually from outlook ..is there any way that , I can forcefully make the same changes from exchange ..such as exchange will force those outlook program to be download the GAL everytime when they close and open the outlook once...

What will be the consequence if i change the cache mode...will it remove all recently typed email address of users of outside users ...or any other problem can also be occur..

          thanks..

Cache mode is independent of the autocomplete function. Disabling cache mode means that users will only see their mailboxes if they can connect to the exchange server, not when offline. Change with care, considering the consequence to you users which is far greater than having a slightly out of date OAB

If you make changes to the GAL, these are then reflected by the OAB. All users should have the updated OAB within 48 hours at the most.
(Worst case scenario is that you make the account change immediately after the OAB has generated, then one or more clients restarted their Outlook almost exactly 24 hours later, just before the OAB is regenerated).

If you are not seeing the updates show on the clients after 48 hours, then you have more serious problems with the OAB generation/distribution system.
