  • Exchange 07 OWA password expired.

    Hi Team,

Does OWA on exchange 07 force user to change their password if it's expired?
I know exchange 03 does so, but on my Exchange 07, it doesn't force user to change password if their password expired. It just prevent to user to logon period.

    Thanks,

I encountered the problem where Exchange 07 won't force users to reset the password. I'm not if it is by design or something I missed on my exchange 07 configuration.
I wonder if someone have seen the same issue.

      Thanks,

I am quite sure if you are looking for password change prompts on OWA,you need to configure IIS on CAS servers.Normally Set up the IISADMPWD Vdir roughly according to KB297121.
        And later set PasswordChangeFlags

Re: Exchange 07 OWA password expired.

There are enhancements to the change password functionality in Exchange 2007 SP3, which was released recently. I would suggest that you look at that.

I don't believe you need the IIS virtual directory as the functionality is built in.

Re: Exchange 07 OWA password expired.

this is the instruction MS has.. would it work if I do it this way?
I have done upto step 6. but the ExchangeApplicationPool is not showing up on the virtual directory.

To configure the IISADMPWD virtual directory, do the following:
            1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Services Manager.
            2. Right-click the default Web site, point to New, and then click Virtual Directory.
            3. In the Virtual Directory Creation wizard, type IISADMPWD in the Alias box, and then click Next.
            4. In the Directory box, type <hard disk>:\winnt\system32\inetsrv\iisadmpwd or the location where your hard disk is your default hard disk, and then click Next.
            5. Verify that only the Read and Run script check boxes are selected, such as the ASP check box, click Next, and then click Finish.
            6. Verify that the IISADMPWD virtual directory has only basic authentication set and, if you use Windows 2003/IIS 6.0, verify that the application pool is set to ExchangeApplicationPool.

Re: Exchange 07 OWA password expired.

I follow the steps below on how to force OWA allow user to change the password once it expired.
I'm lost on step 3. can someone give me an struction on how to do step 3?

              Thanks,

              1) Expanded the IISPWCHG.DLL from the AMD64 directory
              (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932439/en-us)
              2) Setup the IISADMPWD virtual directory
              (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297121/)
              3) Changed the application pool for the IISADMPWD directory to the
              MSExchangeOWAApPool application pool
              4) Performed an IISRESET and rebooted the server

Re: Exchange 07 OWA password expired.

If I am understanding correctly you want to change the App pool for the VD

Properties of the IISADMPWD vdir ->Application pool->MSExchangeOWAAppPool

Also make sure In multi domain/forest It is absolutely essential that the domains have working name resolution on both IP and netbios level (WINS).
If there is no NETBIOS name resolution you will have to add DNS suffixes for your different domains in the IP settings on the CAS servers.

I have still not taken a look at Exchange 2007 SP3,So as per Sembee you may check it

Re: Exchange 07 OWA password expired.

The IISADMPWD function is not required for changing the password in Exchange 2007.

Re: Exchange 07 OWA password expired.

                    Team...

I accomplish what I've wanted. Which is by forcing OWA to allow users to change their password if password expired.

                    The following steps is working
                    1) Expanded the IISPWCHG.DLL from the AMD64 directory
                    (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932439/en-us)
                    2) Setup the IISADMPWD virtual directory
                    (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297121/)
                    3) Changed the application pool for the IISADMPWD directory to the
                    MSExchangeOWAApPool application pool
                    4) Performed an IISRESET and rebooted the server
                    5) Allow "Active Server Pages" under Web Service Extension

                    Thank you for everyone help.
