  • E-Mail Address Policy isn't working properly

    Hey guys

    If a strange problem with email adress policys.

    We use policys with a RecipientFilter (Description -like 'Users Location')
    This was working for some times.

    At the moment, it is just working, if I apply the policy manual. When I create a new user with a correct description, nothing happend. I have to apply the policy manually again

    Does anybody have an idea what the problem is? Is this a problelm with the RecipientFilter and Description??

    do you have "automatically apply recipient policy" option checked, on the user object in active directory ? (I may not have the exact right wording here)

        Can you increase the diagnosis tic logging on RUS, create a new user and see if it gets an email address policy if not then manually force update, once it's done. turn off the logging and provide with error and warning that you receive. Could be RUS is stalled. you can check if the basic stuff as to which dc/gc rus is pointing to, whether rus service is running or not, it's schedule before kicking the logging.

          How can I set the RUS log level? Is RUS still in action in a exchange 2007 environment?

            Not in Exchange 2007. RUS has gone away thankfully.

            You may have to use PowerShell to run the Email Address Policy so that you can use the logging options.

            Although to be honest I would probably start by removing the email address policy and recreating it.

              Recreating does not solve our problem We guess that the 'description' Filter isn't working properly when a new user is created.

              Our Statements:
              New-EmailAddressPolicy -Name Test -RecipientFilter {Description -like '*Testdescription*'} -EnabledPrimarySMTPAddressTemplate %[email protected]}

              then I create a new user with the Description "testdescription". After this steps, the user only get the default policy email addresses.
              Only when I apply the email policy manually, the user gets the right addresses.

              We tested also the field "company", this way it works fine. But we need the description


              What logging options do i have to activate??

                Why are you focusing on getting the description attribute to work instead of using a attribute which is working by default like any of the Custom Attributes?

                You can always synchronize both attributes if the description is that important for you.

                  Because the company is implemented with this "design". Maybe it's not the best way but it's the situation now.. and we try to maintenance this..
