  • internal email to junk mail folder

I know this sounds like an Outlook client issue but hear me out.

We migrated to Exchange 2010 about 6 weeks ago. We are having an issue where emails which generate from many various sources anonymously are randomly showing up in Outlooks junk email folder. Sure I could create a group policy with our internal domain in the safe senders list but I dont want to have to do that.

    Specifics:
    1. I created a custom receive connector where by I have allowed only specific servers access to send emails anonymously.
    2. I have applied the following permission to the receive connector - Get-ReceiveConnector "Anonymous Relay" | Add-ADPermission -User "NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON" -ExtendedRights "Ms-Exch-SMTP-Accept-Any-Recipient" as per the instructions here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb232021.aspx
    3. Headers are getting tagged with:
      X-MS-Exchange-Organization-AuthSource: Server.Domain.com
      X-MS-Exchange-Organization-AuthAs: Anonymous
    4. This is only happening to emails sent through the anonymous connector
Applications which our programmers have configured to authenticate, are not having this issue.
    5. And it is completely random. For example, I receive roughly 300 emails per day from our helpdesk system, only 10 or so go to Junk Mail. Now that is my example, I can deal with that but the end users are getting responses from these internal applications and they are filtering into their junk mail.

Is there any way to combat this from the server without having to create a group policy?

I should also mention that our spam filtering is hosted externally, so these emails do NOT go through any anti-spam filtering.

If you don't have the antispam options enabled in Exchange, then it has to be either a third party tool or Outlook itself. Exchange only filters email when the antispam options are enabled.
