  • public folder rule to move messages- can it be done?

I am using the third party application GFI mailessentials. It is set to mark SPAM messages and to move them to the Junk folder. The problem I am encountering is that for mail-enabled public folders, it keeps the emails in the public folder. While those emails are tagged, they are a nuisance especially since those public folders tend to collect a large amount of SPAM.

GFI is acknowledging this is a problem - but they dont have a solution.

I wanted to create a rule to have those SPAM messages moved to a dedicated JUNK public folder, but I am realizing that the rules available for public folders are more limited and do not have an option to move messages to other folders.

I also tried OWA rules and there is no way to specify a rule to move to a public folder.

I found a program named SpamMoverPF - does just that- alas works only in exchange 2000 or 2003.

I am running out of ideas. Can you help?

    Thanks,

Re: public folder rule to move messages- can it be done?

im pretty sure that in my last job, we had a public folder with over 50 folders and subfolders and sub-sub folders.. to create rules for them, we had the mailbox enabled for logon, loged onto the mailbox as the public folder user, and created the rules...

then we hit the 32K rule size limit.. and had to amend the rules to make them as short as possible.. instead of "move MOM alerts to MOM folder" it was named "1" and had a corresponding document that explained the rules..,

actually..no.. wait.. i just realised, this happened AFTER we had the PF converted to a mailbox for use with a crackberry.. so just ignore me

There is no way that I am aware of to email moved automatically from one public folder to another.

I heard you could do it with transport roles.
Can anyone give me a pointer in that direction?

OK - It can be done, I am almost there.
          Here is what I did:
Added myself as owner to all PFs and gave myself Send AS permissions
For each PF, added a rule to detect keywords in the subject and the action would be to delete and forward. I have it forwarded to Another mail-enabled PF.
It works BUT the rule changes the to field, even though I select "leave message intact". I still wanted to see which PF it was intended for, as I have this rule applied to multiple PFs.

I will write an article with all the details after this is done.
