  • why i can't see the additional dc-gc on the EX2K10

    Hi,
here is my topology one server windows 2003 sp2 as dc-gc-and hold all fsmo.
second server is windows 2008 r2 64bit as dc-gc-and exchange 2010 on it(i know that it's not recommended).
both dc-gc sync ok no problems, but on the EX2K10 under server configuration - CAS - System settings - Active directory server - i see only the first server there and not both of them.
    why is that?
if the server that register there failed i can't open the management console of the EX

Looks like you just discovered the reason while putting a DC and Exchange on the same machine is a bad move.

When Exchange is installed on a domain controller it will only use itself for DC functionality. It will not use any other servers. If you want Exchange to use both domain controllers then you need to move Exchange to another machine. DO NOT remove the DC functionality from Exchange as that will break Exchange.

or i can install another machine as dc-gc and the exchange will see both servers(not himself) in the Active directory server in the exchange console?

NO -- if exchange is installed on a DC, that is the ONLY DC it will use

but now the EX doesn't see himself there. he see the second DC.
why if i add another DC to the network the EX won't see the new DC?

Is the Exchange server also a global catalog?
If not then it MUST be.

If Exchange is installed on a domain controller (which is against best practise) then the machine should also be a global catalog.
The only time that it will use another server is when another Exchange server is also installed on a domain controller.

Get Exchange off the domain controller if you want to use other DCs - do NOT run DCPROMO on the Exchange server as that will break Exchange.
