Need to use Business App to send email..Getting 550 error

Greetings, I am hoping to get some basic 101 help, well for me it's all really hard when it comes to all the different settings within Exchange. We have a business application that now has the ability to use our exchange server to email bids from the software. The software requires some very basic information, Username/password, smtp server and email address. I furnish the information but I keep getting an error: The remote email(smtp) server sent error = 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay state = 75.
I thought perhaps I needed to add the terminal server IP addresses that are running the Business app under the Server Configuration > Hub Transport > Receive Connectors, but that did not help.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Topology setup:
All our servers are VM's runnings Server 2008, we have an Exchange 2007 Server 64, Application Server running our Business application and 5 Terminal servers that have a mapped drive to our app server running the business app. When logged into a TS, within the application you put in the needed server information and that should be all. But I'm guessing I'm missing something on the exchange server to allow the business app to use the exchange server to send the email.

Please let me know if more information is needed.

    Thanks

An IP address can be spoofed or used by something else.
It isn't really secure either. It means anything on that IP address can send email through the server and you cannot stop it.

SUCCESS!!!! Thank you for the help. I am curious why you don't like relay by IP address. If I understand correctly, I have added my servers under the Network tab. I would imagine that the relay would only take place if there was correct authentication and the IP address matched?

    Cheers!

Externally secured can turn your server in to an open relay if the connector can be seen from the Internet.
If you are using authentication in the application (And you should if it supported it) then Basic Authentication should be enabled. I don't like relaying by IP address if I can avoid it.

Thanks for the help. I do have a follow up questions, I just want to make sure I select the correct settings under the Authentication tab.

    Options:
Transport Layer Security (TLS) - currently selected
Enable Domain Security (Mutual Auth TLS) - not selected

    Basic Authentication - not selected
Offer Basic authentication only after starting TLS - not selected

Exchange Server authentication - not selected

Integrated Windows authentication - not selected

Externally Secured (for example, with IPsec) - selected

    Thanks again.

Cannot relay normally means the authentication has failed. The server then rejects the message because it is not going to a domain that it is responsible for. Standard behaviour.
You therefore have to look at the authentication being used very carefully.

Authentication needs to be enabled on the Connector and used in the application in the format of domain\username. After making changes you need to restart the Exchange Transport Service.

Thanks for the link, it was basically the same information I stated I used above in my previous link. I did add an additional setting that I did not have but I am still getting an error.
I was advised by our vendor that I should be selecting "With Authentication" which then gives me an error 504 5.7.4.
So I'm back to the drawing board. I'm not sure what the issue could be. Any help would be great.

To allow an application to relay off your server you need to follow this guide:
