  • Can't add parent domain users to child domain distribution group

Hi. We have one forest and child domain in that forest. When I create Distribution Group in child domain I can add only users from child domain in that group. When I try to add users from parent domain Exchange gives me the following error:

    Code:
    --------------------------------------------------------
    Microsoft Exchange Error
    --------------------------------------------------------
The following error(s) occurred while saving changes:

    Set-Group
    Failed
    Error:
Active Directory operation failed on dc.child.forest.local. This error is not retriable. Additional information: The specified user does not exist.
Active directory response: 00000525: NameErr: DSID-031A0F80, problem 2001 (NO_OBJECT), data 0, best match of:
        ''

    The object does not exist.

Does anyone have a clue how can I add users from parent domain to child domain distribution group?

    I figured it out.

I used the child DC to add users from parent domain to distribution group .

Is that the way it's supposed to work?

Yes, thats the way to go, since only the DCs in the sub domain are writebale for this group.
