  • 550 5.0.0 Message Rejected

    Hey Guys,

How can I view my protocol send logs in order to find out why some of my users are gettings an 550 5.0.0 Message Rejected NDR?

The email isn't actually getting bounced, as my Sonicwall ES Edge servers are logging that the emails are being sent.

The MTA logs on the Sonicwall RA's are showing rejections, but the logs aren't much help.

I have raised a case with Sonicwall about this, but would like to be able to view the Exchange Logs to see if that tells me what is going on.

    Cheers

Protocol logs aren't going to show you anything more than the NDR does.
If you want to look at them, the path to them is in the configuration of the server under Hub Transport.

If Exchange is rejecting the email then it should be showing you more than you have posted. It also isn't clear whether this is for email coming in to Exchange or going out.

      Hey Simon,

      Thanks for the reply mate.

I know where the logs are, but was after a good viewer. I'm getting lock errors on the logs and didn't reallhy want to force them.

The problem is with outgoing. I have been through the Sonicwall RA's logs and they only show so much. As the NDR is being generated on the Exchange side I reckon the SMTP log will show me more than the NDR does.

Message tracking just shows "550 5.0.0 Message Rejected" from the Send Connector, but I want to see the actual SMTP exchange.

None of my HUB's are logging it as a problem in event viewer, so need that smtp log to see what is going on...

I have a couple of ideas as what I think is going on, but need to get into the SMTP logs to prove it.

      Cheers

If it is outgoing then the problem is with your SonicWall device.
The NDR would show why that device is rejecting the message, if it does not then that is poor design on their part.
In my experience Exchange is very reliable when sending and receiving email. Almost all problems I see are caused by third party interference. As I have already said, the logs aren't going to show you much more than the NDR, because the NDR has so little information on it.

          Yeah I agree totally.

In the 6 months I've worked with the Sonicwall device I can honestly say 99% of transport errors have been traced to it.

          Thanks anyway
