  • Exchange 2010 installations failed during domain promo

    Hi,

First I installed Exchange 2010 RC1 on our domain to test it and when the final came. I removed the RC1 from our domain but could not remove it normal, so had to manually remove it through ADSI.

On our new exchange server I rand the promotion commands:

    With success:
    Setup /PrepareSchema
    Setup /PrepareAD /OrganizationName:domainName
    Setup /PrepareDomain

    Failed:
    Setup /pl:domainName

    Error:
    Configuring Microsoft Exchange Server
    Updating legacy permissions ......................... FAILED
The following error was generated when "$error.Clear(); if ($RoleDomain -ne
    $null) { initialize-ExchangeLegacyPermissions -Domain $RoleDomain -DomainContro
    ller $RoleDomainController; } else { initialize-ExchangeLegacyPermissions -AllDo
mains:$true -DomainController $RoleDomainController; }" was run: "Domain borsen
    doesn't exist.".

    Hope you can help!

    Best regard
    Brian Pedersen

    Why are you installing RC1?
The error states does not exist, which means the machine cannot communicate with the domain correctly.

However I would suggest that you try it with released software to begin with.

First I installed RC1 as a test and found it nice so I removed it from the domain with some errors and installed the final edition but get a error when I try to run Setup /pl:domainName if i just type Setup /pl it said Success but I still get error's if I try to create a database.

You removed it with some errors? And what errors would those be?
Is this an installation on to the same machine that had the release candidate on it?

The installer failed, it would not permit me to remove the database or server, so I had to remove it manually in ADSI and then I was able to remove it.

I made a new server (virtual) with the same name and ran promo.

The method you used to remove the server isn't supported unless carried out by or under the guidance of Microsoft support.

It would have been best to either troubleshooted why the process wouldn't uninstall correctly, or carried out a DR install of Exchange on a new build but with the same name. You could then remove it.

There is a good chance that you haven't removed all traces of the old server from the domain.

I would wipe the installation and then build the machine with a fresh name.
