  • Exchange 2007 front end back end migration

We have an Exchange 2003 setup with a front end server and 3 back end servers.

I am trying to find a way of migrating to exchange 2007 on a step by step basis.

    for instance -

    a) can I create an Exchange 2007 front end server to replace/live laongside my 2003 front end server.

    b) Can I then add an additional exchange 2007 back end servers - and just move mailboxes.

If not is there a recommended procedure.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

There is no such thing as an Exchange 2007 frontend server.
You have to replace your Exchange 2003 frontend server with an Exchange 2007 server running the Client Access Role. It will cope with both Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 mailboxes. Once you have done that then you can deploy Exchange 2007 servers with the mailbox role.
