  • New installation of Exchange 2007

    Hi,

Our company is currently using a combination of Windows 2003 r2 servers for Active Directory, file storage and Email. We are using a very old and basic mail server which connects to our ISP, retrieves our mail, then sorts and stores it in pop3 mailboxes and delivers to our Outlook clients.

I have a server and copy of Exchange 2007 ready to be installed. I can find plenty of information on upgrading from Exchange 2003 to 2007, but not a lot about coexisting with non Exchange mail servers.

Can anyone give me some advice on how I will be able to run the two together, or where I can find more information on this.

    Thanks

    Nick

Re: New installation of Exchange 2007

get your exchange server setup and working, make sur the internal mail is working correctly.

then, just adjust yor external MX records so the new mail comes to exchange...

We did a similar migration over to exchange 2003 from pop/smtp earlier this year..

      HI,
      Thanks for your reply.

Will I be able to run the two systems side by side whilst I am setting up Exchange?

      Thanks

      Nick

I am gearing up to do a Exchange 03--->07 Migration and have been doing alot of research, here is one of the MS links I came across related to your question. Towards the bottom are additional links related to the subject.

Re: New installation of Exchange 2007

          Hi,

I have now installed Exchange. I have created an smtp connector so Exchange can deliver internet mail.

In Outlook, I have created 2 email accounts. One connects to our existing pop3 mail server, and one connects to Exchange. Both deliver messages to the same location - the Exchange database. The Exchange account is set as the default, and mail is correctly being sent to internal and external addresses, and also received from the old server.

This setup is running for a few test users. My plan is to move all our users over to this setup. Once I have done that, do I just have to change the MX record at my isp to point to our IP address? Or does Exchange have to be configured to accept these incoming messages?

          Thanks

          Nick
