  • Exchange Migration - Outlook Settings

We will be migrating from Ex2000 to 2007 in the next few months, onto new hardware in the same domain, I understand the install will create connectors joining to the two systems together.

When I move a mailbox from Ex2000 to Ex2007 does the users Outlook automatically update to point to the new mail server?

    We are using Outlook XP

    Thanks

    Dave

I think that this is something that Autodiscover should do automatically, BUT on Outlook 2007 and higher only...

You can do it with the Custom Installation wizard: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308997
Also have a look at this for earlier Outlook clients that connect to Exchange 2007: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555851

Re: Exchange Migration - Outlook Settings

Don't necessarily have to redeploy you can use the following methods to point to the Prf file:

          http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/he...402581033.aspx
          Caesar's cipher - 3

Re: Exchange Migration - Outlook Settings

As long as you install the Exchange 2007 in your current Exchange organization you have nothing to do when you move users from old Exchange to new Exchange.
As soon as a moved user logs on to their mailbox the profile will be updated with the new server information.

This is true as long as the old server is in place.

Thanks for your help, that was the answer I was hoping for FischFra.

The old server will be left in place until about a month after the finished migration.
