How are you determining that? From the sending side or the receiving side?

Re: OOF Taking ages to send reply.

Can we quantify "ages" here please?
Some users complain when a system replies in anything longer than a couple of femtoseconds, others are more used to geological time scales

            Can you clarify:

Who's sending the email to the user that has the OOF turned on? Is it an external or internal sender?

Who has the OOF turned on? Is it an external or internal user?

Ok then. what you can do is look at Message Tracking in ESM and see what's happening with the message. Is it going out quickly, is it sticking in the outbound queue? It may be leaving your server quickly and getting stuck somewhere else.

Can your Exchange server resolve the DNS MX and A records for the external domain? Do you have SMTP logging turned on on the Exchange server? If so, what is in the log?

Re: OOF Taking ages to send reply.

When you say "External User" is sending the OOF, is that someone who is part of your exchange organisation or are they a member of a different exchange organisation?

Re: OOF Taking ages to send reply.

                      Hi,

I will look into this but I am just confirming that I have the correct option selected for. It is on the third option at the mo. External user nothing to do with the company sends to the exchange server user but receives no oof ?

Out-of-office message types delivered to this remote domain:

                      Allow none

If you select this option, no out-of-office messages are delivered to the remote domain.

                      Allow external out-of-office messages only

If you select this option, only out-of-office messages that are configured as external by an Outlook 2007 client or by using Outlook Web Access for a mailbox that is located on an Exchange 2007 Mailbox server are delivered to the remote domain.

Allow external out-of-office messages, and out-of-office messages set by Outlook 2003 or earlier clients or sent by Exchange Server 2003 or earlier servers

If you select this option, out-of-office messages that are configured as external by an Outlook 2007 client or by using Outlook Web Access for a mailbox that is located on an Exchange 2007 Mailbox server are delivered to the remote domain. Out-of-office messages that are set by Outlook 2003 or earlier clients, regardless of the server version of their mailbox store, are delivered to the remote domain. Out-of-office messages that are sent by Exchange 2003 or earlier servers, regardless of the client version that is used to set the out-of-office message, are delivered to the remote domain.

Allow internal out-of-office messages, and out-of-office messages set by Outlook 2003 or earlier clients or sent by Exchange Server 2003 or earlier servers

If you select this option, out-of-office messages that are configured as internal by an Outlook 2007 client or by using Outlook Web Access for a mailbox that is located on an Exchange 2007 Mailbox server are delivered to the remote domain. Out-of-office messages that are set by Outlook 2003 or earlier clients, regardless of the server version of their mailbox store, are delivered to the remote domain. Out-of-office messages that are sent by Exchange 2003 or earlier servers, regardless of the client version that used to set the out-of-office message, are delivered to the remote domain.

Re: OOF Taking ages to send reply.

What email client is user with the OOF message using? I'm assuming they are using Exchange 2007 but what version of Outlook?

Re: OOF Taking ages to send reply.

2007 but sets the oof through owa. This is a comnpany wide issue however so I cannot see it being down to the clients ?

Re: OOF Taking ages to send reply.

It is determined by the client. Look again at the wording in option 3:

So with OWA or Outlook 2007 the OOF has to be configured as external. That's the key, determining if the OOF is set to external.

also, have you looked in Message Tracking in ESM? Have you looked at the SMTP logs?

I have set it to be Allow external out-of-office messages only

I have also had a look in the smtp logs and can see messages coming in but no oof messages going out. I also see a receive and deliver optoions through the Message Tracking ??

                              Any Ideas ?
