  • Cannot Send email from exchange 2003 to exchange 2007

    Hi guys

I have exchange server 2003 in my organization on windows server 2003
I just install exchange 2007 server on a different windows 2003 server,
I create some new mailboxes on the 2007 and transfer few from the 2003 to 2007
Now when I am sending Email from the server 2007 to exchange 2003 everything working well and the user get the Email

But when I am sending Emails from the exchange 2007 to the old exchange 2003, the Emails stay in the Queue and not being deliver

The Only thing is I think off is I am working with is smart host , so I remove it and create SMTP smart host to send Email threw my ISP

any idea how to solve this Issue ?

    Thanks

Well how many servers are there ?

Where did you set the smart host?
On the SMTP virtual server or on an SMTP Connector?
It MUST be set on the SMTP Connector, with the SMTP virtual server blank.

Can the server actually connect to the other server on port 25?

        telnet 192.168.1.1 25

When the messages are in the queue, what does the queue information box say?

        Simon.

If you look at the properties of the messages that are stuck in the queue, is there an error message that says "Unable to open message for delivery"? Or any other type of message.

This isn't exactly the same your issue, but I had a similar problem last year with calendar invites (not mail messages) from our Exchange 2003 users to external Exchange 2007 users being stuck in the queue and then timing out.

It wasn't until I saw the "Unable to open message for delivery" error that I was able to track down the cause as being the two different versions of Exchange, and not the configuration of my server.

As Simon suggests above, check the queue information box for messages. See screen shot below.
