  • Domain and Exchange 2007 Licensing

I need to purchase licenses for the following...

500 Users in total, all will require an email account.

75 Domain Users attached to the server
500 Exchange Users, some via outlook and the majority via OWA.

400 of my users will only use OWA. Do I need to purchase a CAL license for all 500?

ANy help would be very much appriecated.

    Bo

No one on this site is qualified to answer your question.
The most that we can give you is opinions. You should not base purchasing decisions on a forum posting. If you get it wrong and you are raided, any lawyer will laugh at you if you said that someone on a forum told you.

The only valid answer is the one from Microsoft, in writing.

My opinion based on the information that you have provided is that you will need 500 Exchange licenses and 500 Windows licences. Exchange is licenced as CAL - client Access - that is any form of access - so OWA, Outlook Anywhere, POP3, IMAP. If you are accessing the server then you also need a Windows CAL.

If there are additional points that make you think otherwise, then you should have included them, but only Microsoft can tell you if a number less than 500 would be valid.

      Simon.
