  • Exchange 2007 mailbox permissions

    Hi,

Been a while since I have been on here, stuck on something sadly.

I have implemeted a clean install of exchange 2007 on a new domain.

Created the users and the mailboxes.

    All is working ok.

I thought that the default installation only enabled the owner of the mailbox to view their own mailbox, no one elses.

Unfortunately, this is not the case, I can view other peoples mailboxes?

    Any ideas?

    Interesting.

OWA says I cannot open up other mailboxes due to being restricted.

However, when I use Outlook 2003 I can look at other peoples.

      Hi,

AFAIK in Exchange 2007 if u are a domain admin then you will have default permission on the normal user mailboxes to open it whereas for owa u need to grant full mailbox permission from exchange managemnt console GUI.....Outlook and Owa requires different sets of permision to access it....

What all permision u see on that user mailbox..

        Re: Exchange 2007 mailbox permissions

        Hi there,

I'm actually logged in as a normal user on a member desktop with normal priviledges, thats why it's concerning

Regarding the rightS, I'll get that tomorrow.

It's a bit odd :s never had this issue before,

Thank you for taking your time to read and reply,

        Gabi

The behaviour you are seeing is not correct.
By default NO account has access to all other mailboxes, not even the Administrator account. Therefore something has been changed.
Group membership, permissions somewhere. Something has been modified to allow this kind of permission access.

            Re: Exchange 2007 mailbox permissions

            Found the problem!

I restarted the member end user pc,logged in as the normal user and then opened outlook, behavior was back to normal.

I then logged in as the administrator, however, used a normal user outlook profile, the same issue occured, where I could view all users mailboxes.

Basically, if I login as a normal user, it's fine.

            Strange :s
