  • Latency breakpoint for Exchange2007 MAPI over WAN

We are planning to deploy the Exchange2007 over WAN which has usual higher latency issue. During internal test Outlook2007 in cache mode has performed well for latency such as 200ms to 300ms.

However free/busy check & shared mailbox usage increases network utilization as it works online.

At what latency outlook will show degrades in performance considering exchange to be deployed as centralized.

We are also looking for juniper/cisco/Riverbed wan accelerator to improve performacne, however looking for breakpoint for MAPI protocol in terms of Latency

i dont remember any limits set/configured from MAPI protocol itself.

You cannot connect over the Internet to Exchange Server 2003 from Outlook 2007 or from Outlook 2003
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831060

As per the above KB article @ 128 Kbps, Outlook will wait for the response from the exchange server to complete the MAPI connections

If Outlook starts aborting the MAPI connections from the servers.. you could expect the Rpc/dialog box from Outlook.

So my understanding is to give a try atleast with Pilot/test mailbox across the WAN connection to see/expect what sort of error could happen

To clarify, the above is the title of the KB article link posted, not a restriction on Exchange 2003!
