  • OWA - Multiple AD Sites

    Hi,

I have got the following setup :

Main Site - Exchange 2007, Public Facing CAS
Secondary Site - Exchange 2007, CAS (Not Public Facing)

So what I am trying to achieve is for all users from both sites to go to webmil.domain.com and be able to access there mailboxes.

It works fine for people in the main site, but when people that are in the secondary site go to webmail.domain.com they get the following error

Outlook Web Access is not available. If the problem continues, contact technical support for your organization and tell them the following: There is no Microsoft Exchange Client Access server that has the necessary configuration in the Active Directory site where the mailbox is stored.

I am assuming that I need to configure some form of CAS Proxying but not really sure on how to do this.

Can anyone advise how to do this. I have read - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb310763.aspx but that didn't really clear anything up.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Paul

What you haven't said is whether you have dedicated CAS or not.
If you don't, then proxying is not available. You can only proxy using a machine that does not hold the MBX role.

      Hi,

In my Main Site I have one Exch 2007 server that is CAS, MBX & Hub

In my Secondary Site I have one Exch 2007 server that is CAS, MBX & Hub.

So how can I have one address ie webmail.domain.com server both sets of users.

      Thanks

Re: OWA - Multiple AD Sites

You can only have a single point of entry if you have a server holding the CAS role and NOT the MBX role. As both of your servers have CAS and MBX they will not proxy for the other. Therefore you either have to purchase a third server and Exchange 2007 license to work as a CAS or you will need to use separate URLs for both servers.

          Hi Simon

i am having exactly the same issue as Paul - seems very odd that it can't be done! You wouldnt happen to have a link to any of the MS documentation that states this do you? I have a feeling it is going to cause an argument between myself and the customers...

          thanks

I don't know why you think this is odd. The behaviour hasn't changed since Exchange 2000.
All that has changed is the terminology.

This is probably the best explanation.

Re: OWA - Multiple AD Sites

              thanks for the reply simon.

I just assumed it would work. I have just never read anywhere that having CAS and MBX on the same server can cause these types of issues. Although there are lots of examples of how to set it up, none of them *seem* to mention that if they are on the same server it won't work.

Do you know if CAS redirection works ok when MBX and CAS are on the same server?

Re: OWA - Multiple AD Sites

You cannot have CAS and MBX on the same server if you want redirection to work. Those are the two services that need to be separated.

I am sure that is explained in the Microsoft documentation somewhere.
