  • Installing exchange 2007 sp1

    Hi all
I have some questions about exchange 2007 sp1
Iím going to install exchange 2007 on windows 2008 enterprise without hyper-v
The machine is HP dL380G5 with 4 giga ram , 2 raid1 disks for system and 3 raid5 disk for data
    Iím using one quad cpu
The server is going to serve 20 users
I can add more ram if there is a need
I know that Microsoft recommend installing edge transport in the perimeter. Can I install all the five roles on the same machine although itís not recommended?
i have one DC and i want to install another one.
Can I install active directory on the same machine with exchange 2007?
    Regards
    shai
    Good Luck

You can't install Edge on to the same machine as any other role.
You don't need Edge for Exchange 2007 to work correctly.

If you are not going to use Edge then you should follow this guide to configure the server:

As for installing Exchange on a DC, while you can, and it is supported, it is not recommended.

If you have only 20 users, any reason why you are not using SBS?
Windows Enterprise edition is a bit over the top for an Exchange server with 20 users. You only need Enterprise edition when you want to use clustering.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. The most appropriate tool for the job is my motto. With 20 users SBS is ideal, and certainly brings additional extras that are not available in the full product.
