  • Changing from name for email sent externally

We have all our AD users and mailboxes setup to be listed "surname, firstname". One of our Directors has a firstname for both his firstname and surname which means people mistake his surname for his firstname! Is their a way of making any emails which go externally from him to be "firstname surname" <[email protected]> without affecting the way we do things for the other accounts and GAL listing?

    Running:
    W2K3 SP2 x64 servers
    2003 native AD
    Exchange 2007 SP1

Add the correct email address in the ad manually or if you already have it. Select that address and set it as primary

users > properties > email address tab [exchange 2003]

    exchange 2007
recipient configuration > mail box properties > one of the tabs would have that setting

sorry i have nuked my labs but you will get that option on the mailbox properties in e2k7
    Thanks & Regards

Re: Changing from name for email sent externally

Thanks for the reply. Its not the email address which is the problem but the display name part. My Director is called David James, when clients get an email from him its disdaplyed as "James, David" <[email protected]> So they call him James rather than David.

I want to know how I can change the "James, David" part on messages sent externall to "David James" without having to change the display name internally - as everything on the Gal is Surname, firstname.

Hope its clearer. I'm not the best at describing sometimes!

        A transport rule might work.
If not then it isn't possible without the use of a third party tool outside of Exchange.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried setting a transport rule but changing the from header is a big no no - at least thats what the error message implies.

As its not possible I'll tell the guy to suck it up, or change his name.
