  • Route Email from one child to another child

    Hi All,

    Here is the picture.

    * I have one parent and two childs.

    * All machines are 64 bit, running 64 bit win2k3 OS.

    * Exchange 2007 is installed on both childs.

    * Emails can flow within each child and from one child to another and vice versa, no problem.

    Now, Lets say

    * in child1 i have a user called test1 and in child2 i have a user called test2

    * from child1, test1 sends an email to test2, which is received on exchange server running on child2

    My question is, How can I route the email so that it is received on child2 and also on child1 where it is stored for disaster recovery.

    forexample, if in future, child2 goes down for some reasons, the users of child2 will be able to retrieve their emails from child1.

    Thanks & Regards

    The simple answer is that you can't.

    You could put a forward on each mailbox to forward a copy to another mailbox (ie separate name etc) but that would be for inbound email only, outbound email would not be covered in that way.

    If you want DR then you need to look at DR solutions that are provided by Exchange. However remember the formula - the long you can be without email, the cheaper it will be.

    Personally I would be concerned about why you are planning for a failure of the server - ie not a disaster recovery scenario. With high quality hardware, redundant storage etc, hardware failure is uncommon these days.

      Play with transport rules on the child server (single hub transport server)
