  • Exchange2007- RPC server is unavailable

    Hi All,

I am running into an irritating problem here.

    here is my scenario.

    ---------------Parent (DC)
    ---------------------|
    ---------------------|
    | -----------------------|
    |------------------------| |
    |------------------------| |
    ----Child1 (ADC)--------- Child2 (ADC)

    * All three machines are 64 bit, running 64 bit win2k3.

    * child1 and child2 have exchange 2007 installed.

    * whenever i try to perform an operation, on any of childs, that requires some communication with Parent, it says RPC server is unavailable.

    * forexample, if i open AD Domains and Trusts snap-in on Parent, it works fine. But if i open AD Domains and Trusts snap-in on any of childs, it says "the configuration information describing this enterprise is not available - The RPC server is unavailable"

I have been googling over it from last 2 days, came across various posts related to this issue, tried everything. but nothing works.

Forexample, the artile here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555839/en-us , describes the problem. All the solutions described in this article are already running in my scenario. but problem still exists.

    * DNS is working fine, both childs are logged onto domain. they cant login to domain if dns isnt working. in lan cards of both childs, the dns is set to be ip of parent, which is dns server. no issues with dns

    * Time zone thing is working fine aswell, downloaded the time zone patch/update from microsoft site, after installing exchange 2007, as suggested by exchange 2007 setup finishing tasks.

    * WINS thing is perfect too

    * Remote registry service is running too, on all computers

    * TCP/IP netbios helper service is runnin too, on all computers.

Please suggest a solution to help my life bring out of this exchange misery.

    Thanks.

Re: Exchange2007- RPC server is unavailable

Is there a firewall/router between these servers?

Can you run a DCDIAG from one of the child DC's towards the parent DC?
I'm guessing some ports are blocked.

        alright, the problem got solved.

it was an issue of a service named "SERVER", which wasnt started. Although it was set to automatic by default.

        thanks all

Re: Exchange2007- RPC server is unavailable

I really liked the way outstream has presented his question. More informative and less stories about lost kittens and Cats.
          Thanks & Regards
