  • NDRīs is deleted when sent to public folders

    Hey

Iīve checked around but I have not been able to find a solution to this problem.
We have several mail enabled public folders and, sometimes when a user sends a mail from the the adress is wrong an an NDR is generated.

The only notification I get is a log-entry saying

The delivery of a message sent by public folder xxxxxxx
    has failed.
    To: ***********@******.com
    Cc:

The non-delivery report has been deleted.

Anyone have a tip onto how to solve this?

Yep, Iīve seen that links. But, the hotfix is only to 2003 as I understood it. And, it is not fixing the problem with the NDR, it is only removing the notice from the log. =/

I don't think the first link is removing the error message as such?

Re: NDRīs is deleted when sent to public folders

Maybe so, but still, the hotfix is for Exchange 2003, and the other link dont apply to the problem I have discribed, ss I understood it.

I want the public folder to be able to recieve the NDR, or maybe some other user to be able to get a copy of the NDR before it gets deleted by the server.

I have googled the problem, but I cannot find a solution to the problem. One solution would be to get the Non Delivery Report that was destined to the public folder to instead get to another user.

Re: NDRīs is deleted when sent to public folders

If there is no moderation on the folder then it probably doesn't.

Not sure how true this is?
            http://forums.msrportal.com/archive/...hp?t-8793.html

however having read the second link I posted
"In Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, non-delivery reports (NDRs) are deleted by the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service (Store.exe) when a public folder is designated as the recipient. "

could imply this is by design...

You cannot have NDRs sent to public folders.

              No workarounds.

Okey... Thatīs a shame. But, how can I solve the problem then? I need those NDRīs! Anyway to set up a role like

                if NDR to xxxxx (publicfolder)
                then
send to another mail adress insted?

                Thanks for all help!

Re: NDRīs is deleted when sent to public folders

Maybe use a mailbox with the address you send from rather than a PF?
How do you use the PF?
                  cheers

Re: NDRīs is deleted when sent to public folders

We have a mail enebled public folder that recieves mails from our customers. The mail consists of updates to our systems with address changers, reports of when they are avaliable and so on.

Some of our staff checks the public folder at all times to see if any updates are there, and takes care of updating the system with the correct information. The users also forwards and replies to the mails when the information is updated.

I know it probably would be nicer to implement some sort of request ticketing, errand system. But, until then we are stuck with the public folder.

So, we can not use only one standardmailbox since the are several people who needs to be able to edit and watch the messages.

Re: NDRīs is deleted when sent to public folders

If the public folder is receiving email, then it should not be getting NDRs. Public Folders should really be considered a one way basis - inbound only. If you need to send email as a public folder then use a mailbox.

More than one person can access a mailbox - if you are under the impression that they cannot then you are wrong. You simply need to grant the relevant permissions and add the mailbox to Outlook.

Solved for Exchange 2007 Re: NDRīs is deleted when sent to public folders

You can install YesNDR which works fine for Exchange 2007. See following link:

I've removed the link to this because it is paid for software. I believe Sembee's advice is better for this situation.

If you have any questions about this please PM me. Please do not post live links to paid for software.
