  • one exchange server with 2 domains/zones

    Dear All,

Can i use one exchange server with two active directory services (2 DC) machines in one time. if yes, how?
in other words, Can one exchange server manage with 2 domain name (2 DNS zone) like as [email protected] and [email protected] in one time? is there we need separate exchange server for each one?

Re: one exchange server with 2 domains/zones

Exchange will read all the domain controllers for your site and use them for its AD requirements so you can have multiple DCs in use. I think you need to explain a bit more by what you mean by "Can i use one exchange server with two active directory services (2 DC) machines in one time." though?

Exchange can also accept mail for multiple domains as well, set these up in your accepted domains.

Re: one exchange server with 2 domains/zones

Exchange will only talk to one domain controller at a time - the first one to respond. Once it has attached itself to a single domain controller it will not change unless that domain controller goes away. However it does not do that immediately, it takes around 35 minutes for Exchange to find another DC to use.
Don't forget that Exchange will only use global catalog domain controllers.
