  • User can't send to Exchange External Contacts.

PLEASE help. I have a member of the Executive Office having an issue with sending to three outside directors. I have them listed as Contacts in the AD, which shows them as Contacts in the EMC. i, along with others, can send email to them. Just not this user. This is what she gets back. Please help.

    Thanks in advance.

Is that being sent to a group, or individuals?
If the addresses are entered manually, does it work then?

I asked her to. In the mean time, she sent it to one contact from the SMTP Mail Contact list in EMC and got the following error.

      Relay host reported error:
      550 5.1.0 <scain> SIZE=100041 domain name required

The remote side is rejecting the message for some reason.
Do you have anything between Exchange and the internet? Firewall perhaps?

Firewall, yes...But when she sends to remote user, in the "From" field, it just has her username (first intiial and last name ex. JDOE), as opposed to the entire address. Do I have something set up worong?

Re: User can't send to Exchange External Contacts.

What you are seeing at the remote side may be correct - but that doesn't mean it is wrong. Not all email clients will show the full SMTP address, some will just show the display name. You would have to look at the full SMTP headers to see if the correct information is on the email message.

What is your firewall? Some of them will scan SMTP traffic which can cause a problem with email delivery.

              Sonicwall.

FYI - When she types out the address, it fills in the rest of the address.

Also, this is the other error she gets when sending to the other outside director.

              Relay host reported error:
501 SYNTAX ERROR IN PARAMETERS OR ARGUMENTS

Re: User can't send to Exchange External Contacts.

That isn't an Exchange message, so it is being generated by the remote server.
It is classic interference, so you need to check everything that the SMTP message goes through. I am not familiar with Sonicwalls, but check whether it has any SMTP/Email scanning facilities.

If the addresses are being auto completed, then delete them and get the user to enter them again manually.

As it is a single user I would also do the standard test of whether the problem follows the user to another machine.

                Simon.

Re: User can't send to Exchange External Contacts.

It's like it needs the entire address. We sent to another address to another company and got a similar error back.

                  504 Need Fully Qualified Address

I am going to delete all SMTP Mail Contacts and then try to send.

Are you sure that you have the FQDN set correctly on the Send Connector?

Re: User can't send to Exchange External Contacts.

You are talking to a noob. Break it down for me.

Update - I deleted the mail contact in EMC and sent to the person that previously could not receive the emails. She got it. But when I replied back it came back undeliverable. Another user got the following error when sending to an external recipiant.

501 5.1.3 Invalid eMail Address in Reverse Path

It HAS to be something with the way i have it set up.

Thanks so much for the help, man...I am runing out of time on this.

Re: User can't send to Exchange External Contacts.

                        Sorry for the doubles...

I am migrating from one email server (and program) to Exchange.Outlook. (The old program was called Office Logic).

Currently, the users are set up with an Exchange account and then a POP account to the old server to get the internal mail from the handful of users not converted yet. It seems that the error message that comes back is generated from the email server that they are popping, not Exchange. How is that happening?

                        EDIT:

I THINK I have it fixed. In the POP account settings, I had the user's "username" and not the entire email address in the Email Address field. I didn't IMMEDIALTELY get a bounce back, so I hope all is good!!!!

Dude, thanks for your help. 1,000 Rep points all around!
