  • How to receive emails in Exchange 2007

I have recently configured exchange 2007 and have reached the stage where i can send and receive internal emails within exchange and can also send emails to hotmail and other domains on the internet. The problem we are facing is that we can not receive any email sent to the domain users we have created in Exchange. Please advise how to overcome this issue as we have already created A and MX records at the domain hosting site to point to our exchange server. We have also created a catch account at the domain hosting site. is that the account from which exchange is supposed to fetch all emails sent to our domain and distribute them to the users created in our exchange server? one more question, regarding MX records:
    Record FQDN
    Record Type
    Record Value
    MX Pref
    mail.dpetri.net
    A
    192.90.1.1

    dpetri.net
    MX
    mail.dpetri.net
    10

for record value for A records, the IP we are supposed to use, is it the fix IP we get from our dsl provider or the ip of the network card of our mail server?

    pls help

You shouldn't have a catchall account setup at your ISP.
People sending mail to you work out where to send it to by reading the MX record in DNS. This points to an A record that eventually resolves to the public IP address you server is listening on.
You will need to allow tcp port 25 through the firewall/router from your public IP to the internal IP of your exchange server as well.
Make sure your ISP doesn't block the traffic as well.
    cheers

If you aren't using an Edge server, then Exchange will not receive emails from the internet in its out of the box configuration. You have to make some changes.

This article is from the msexchange team on setting up a single server without Edge.

Use the online testing tools to confirm that your MX records are correct, resolve and actually work.

Microsoft also have a prototype tool at https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/ which may also assist with confirming the server is configured correctly for the outside world.

Re: How to receive emails in Exchange 2007

        Simon and Andy

Thanks a lot for your assistance with how to receive emails. it worked out great and we are not receiving emails without any problem for our first Domain.

We are now in need of assistance with the following issue:

we are working with 3 different domains. we have succesfully added the three domains in Accepted Domains. also, we have created the mailboxes for the users but the problem we are facing is that the email addresses for lets say an Active Directory user "bob" appear as [email protected], [email protected] and so on. We understand it is because we have a user created in the active directory with the name [email protected]l. Now when we view the properties for this user and click on email Address for properties of user bob, we see all email address for 3 different domains starting with the same name.

We would like to know how to make it possible to have one AD user with 3 different email addresses and receive emails for all 3 different addresses in Outlook under a different profile so the user bob can reply to an email which was sent to [email protected] instead of [email protected]? For example, user bob in AD be able to receive emails for [email protected] in a different outlook profile and [email protected] to receive emails in a different outlook profile. We tried various things but to no avail. Any help to resolve this issue will be greatly appreciated. I hope we dont have to create a separate user in AD for each domain email address.

I would suggest that you start a new thread rather than dragging this one off topic with something new.
