  • Exchange 2003 Legacy Mailbox Distribution Group - Multiple Messages

    Hello all,

I have an issue with an Exchange mixed environment. A new Exchange 2007 server was installed a few months ago, but the Exchange 2003 server still exists. There are somehow 3 mailboxes left on the Exchange 2003 server.

The user with the mailbox on the 2003 server receives multiple (anywhere between 2- messages when a 2007 user emails a distribution group of which the 2003 member is a part of. She is the only 2003 legacy mailbox in the group. Emails directly to her are fine.

I'm not sure why the mailbox is still on the 2003 server, perhaps maybe because of it's size. It's 1.7 GB. At the time of the cut over, someone may have not moved it because of that, I'm not sure.

    Anyone ever seen this?

    Thanks, Brandon

The fact that you are crossing versions shouldn't be a problem.
Therefore I would suspect that the problem is elsewhere. What does message tracking show? Does it show multiple messages? This could be something like a rule that forwards the message to this user from someone else.

    Simon.

      Hey there Simon,

That's how I found out about the problem. Exchange 2007 Message Tracking shows the multiple messages being delivered only to the legacy mailbox.

It's slated to be moved today anyway to the 2007 server. If it still occurs, then I'm not sure what it is.

I'd like to know what it is, but I'm going to move it anyway.

What about message tracking on the Exchange 2007 server? Does that show multiple messages?
This sounds like some forwarding is going on somewhere within Outlook, not on the server.

That's where I found it, Exchange 2007 Message Tracking. I didn't try yet to track it with the 2003 server; perhaps I should. The mailbox is being moved tomorrow anyway. But again, I'm curious.
