  • OWA/Outlook Client: From address with Exchange 2007

    Hello E2007 users.

We are currently using a SBS2003 server, which works pretty ok.
However, a problem that somewhat annoys a few of us is this:

The server is used by multiple companies, which share the same people.

E.g.: Sebastiaan works for Company A, but also Company B.
So, he has: [email protected], and [email protected]

He frequently uses OWA. With the exchange client, we resolved this by adding POP accounts for b.com, (where a.com would be the primary domain on the Exchange), so he can select Company-B "from-address" when sending a message.

OWA does not allow this however. This creates confusion with customers.
It has been acknowledged by MS that this is a "missing feature", in 2003.

My question is, before I buy the new 2007 version, does OWA support this feature now?. And, is the Outlook client also improved regarding this topic? Or must we still use POP accounts to achieve this?

    Thanks!

There is no change in the behaviour with Exchange 2007.
Do you have a public reference for this "missing feature" admission from Microsoft? As far as I am aware Microsoft do not consider this a feature that is required in Exchange as it is not something that is requested very often. There are certainly other features that I would prefer Microsoft to put in the product rather than this.

I have an email from a washington state based MS manager.
Anyway, that does not matter, really.

The question was if it was supported. I guess not then?

Unless it came from the Microsoft Exchange product team, then it isn't worth the paper it is written on. I have never seen Microsoft acknowledge this as a "missing" feature.

There is no support for the From field in OWA of the current version of Exchange.

I don't see how this really matter in this topic, as that was not the question/discussion?

          Thank you.
I guess I'll stick with 2003 for a while then...

Simple - you have stated something as being "fact" when it isn't, because it was in a private email to you, which unless it has come from the product team is worthless.

The problem with Microsoft is that little things like you have stated become larger rumours that get out of control, picked up by blogs. Microsoft have never mentioned the From field in OWA in anything that I have seen them write, so while it is a "missing" feature, that does not imply it will appear at any point in the future. There is very little demand for any features that allow sending from multiple addresses. Even in Outlook it is a fudge to do it using multiple accounts or third party tools. It isn't native.

I think you fail to grasp my point.
But thanks for your help. I now know what to do.
