  • Installing Exchange 2007 on Windows 2008 DC

    Hi everyone

I intend to install Exchange 2007 SP1 on Windows 2008 Domain controller.
It Will be the only server in a NEW Domain.
Do You know of any problems that may occur by that installation?

I'm getting many contradictory opinions, and I made a little research myself,
but still I have no garantee that It CAN work.

Please tell me what you think of that.....

    Thanks
    Dekel

Basically, Exchange 2007 RTM is not supported on Windows Server 2008 RTM
, but Exchange 2007 PL1 (the full install) is supported on Windows Server 2008 RTM.

I think this is the kind of issue people would rather not even think about:

      Exchange on a DC
      Single DC on the domain

If you want to do something like that, look at the Windows small business editions.

        Thanks for replying...

I looked at the links but it just stuff I already read before and it doesn't realy answer my question. It all refer to install Exchange 2007 on windows 2008.
My question was if DC 2008 & Exchange 2007 can co-exist in one server, one domain.
I know it is not recommended solution, but this company is a little tight with money right now. They're gonna expand to more then 70 employees in a year & probably have a lot more money in a year so SBS doesn't fit.

Is there anybody who've actually done it himself? in a test enviroment? In a production enviroment?

Yes I believ you can install it. I would try it in a VM first if you want to test though.

Installing Exchange 2007 on Directory Servers
For security and performance reasons, we recommend that you install Exchange 2007 only on member servers, and not on Active Directory directory servers. Although installing Exchange 2007 on a directory server is supported, it is strongly discouraged. However, you cannot run DCPromo on a computer running Exchange 2007. After Exchange 2007 is installed, changing its role from a member server to a directory server, or vice versa, is not supported.

Re: Installing Exchange 2007 on Windows 2008 DC

If I'm not mistaken, SBS should now support up to 75 users, and EBS up to 250.

Re: Installing Exchange 2007 on Windows 2008 DC

At home I'm testing Exchange 2007 SP1 enterprise on Server 2008 64bit Enterprise.

So far Exchange installs fine with the exclusion of the connector error, can't remember exactly the problem but it is document in microsofts KB.

I've not tested functionality of exchange yet but every thing seems fine so far.

              Hope this help,

              Richard
