  • Smart Host on exchange 2007 SCC

    Hi Guys,

I am transitioning from Exchange 2000 to exchange 2007 SCC. On my exchange 2000 there is a smart host configured for routing mail to the outside world. Is it possible to configured smart host on Single copy cluster? A single copy cluster only installed the mailbox role.Wht can i do in this case?

Hub Transport is the role that deals with that and I don't think you can install that on a cluster so you require another server.
I believe it is usually better to use DNS as well for mail delivery if possible.

EDIT: I also believe HT and CA should be installed before MB as well usually?
    cheers

      Is this server clustered?
If it is, then it cannot hold any other roles than Mailbox and you will need another server. If it is not clustered then you haven't installed all of the roles correctly.

There is no way to add the smart host to the SCC. This is because only the maibox role can be clustered and the Smart Host configuration is done on the Hub Transport Role. If you require redundancy on you Hub Transport I would look into NLB http://technet2.microsoft.com/window....mspx?mfr=true
Or DNS Round Robin with multiple Hub Transport servers
