    Exchange 2k7 running on Server 2k3 r2 sp1 all 32-bit

    Start the management tools

    Error reads:
Active Directory server exch01.xxx.com is not available. Error message: A local error occurred.
    It was running command 'get-ExchangeAdministrator'.

The following error(s) were reported while loading topology information:

    get-ExchangeServer
    Failed
    Error:
Active Directory server exch01.xxx.com is not available. Error message: A local error occurred.

    A local error occurred.

    get-UMServer
    Failed
    Error:
Active Directory server exch01.xxx.com is not available. Error message: A local error occurred.

    A local error occurred.

    Here's the fix

very annoying to have to delete my own user profile to get access to the management tools especially when its the only program having an issue with active directory but it works(can backup the created docs-copy yourself in active directory users, log in, change permissions to old profile folder...). Not sure if outlook 2k7 is the cause...

Re: Exchange 2007 management tools wont connect

We had a similar issue. Here is what resolved it for us

we created another domain admin account and logged in with that, the managment tools then worked just fine.

We then deleted the original admins profile logged back in and they all worked fine.

This error occurred after we installed outlook 2007 on the exchange server (which Microsoft Happily says is just fine to do with Ex2007) for testing purposes before going live. It will work as long as you don't want to use the management tools on an account that has had outlook configured.

Don't know if that is your issue, but worth a try.

This is a known issue and ssmith's steps are worth a try..but normally its not reccomended to delete an admin profile....(My personal thinking)...
      u may try these steps...
      1. Click Start, click Run, type control keymgr.dll , and the click OK.
      2. Click Back up, and then follow the instructions to save the current entries.
      3. Delete any entry that matches the names of the Exchange servers and domain controllers in your organization. Typically, you want to clear all entries.
      4. Try to open the Exchange Management Console

        Fazal ! Thank you !!!
I have tried so many things, including deleting the administrator account profile against MSFT's recommendation (as you point out)

        Your suggestion worked !
        Amazing !!

This is the first forum thread that suggests your method...
        Thank you !
