  • Migrate Public folders from ex2k3 to ex2k7

I need to migrate public folders from ex2003 to ex2007.

The problem I have is that the domains are completely different and the two mail servers do not know about each other.

The ex2007 will be the companies new mail server and will replace the ex2003 server eventually, but for now I need to keep them completely separate.

Is pfmigrate.swf the tool for this?

Exchange 2007 is Microsoft's start at eventually getting rid of public folders but you can still use them (and will have to have them if you have any pre-2007 Outlook clients). How many PF are you looking at and what sort of size?

Never used pfmigrate but it seems it may not support 2007.

It looks like about 30 folders. that average about 5M each.

I have read different suggestions for using pfmigrate but they all assume your networks are connected and you are migrating to 07.

In my case I need to be able to export the folders to a file (.pst>), copy or ftp them to the new server and then import them.

Well if they are small you can just copy them (drag and drop copy) into a new mailbox and then export to pst using outlook. You will lose permissions on them though.

Thinking of that though, if you haven't got a trust/sid history then you won't have permissions anyway.

If the domains are separate then you only have one option - PST files exported through Outlook.

The pfmigrate script is just a script for adding the replication information to the folders. It doesn't do anything special and is useless in this scenario. It only works where both servers are in the same Exchange org.

I actually rarely use pfmigrate at all during my migrations.
