  • Removing Orphan Exchange 2007 Server

My team is working for a role based deployment of Exchange server deployment.
One Exchange server placed at a remote site holding all roles was infected
from some worm and system has to be formated.

Now we have to install Exchange server with same name but this Exchange
server is appearing in Exchange Management Consol, also visible using
Get-ExchangeServer command using Exchange Management Shell.

Now we have to remove this orphan Exchange server, so we can install
Exchange server with the same name.

Your quick help is highly appriciated.

I found an from a web site that orphan Exhange 2007 can be removed from organization from removing the server from

Configuration > Services > Microsoft Exchange > Administrative Groups > Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT) > Servers

    Any comments on that..
Petri your comments regarding will be very helpful.

There are no manual removal instructions for Exchange.
While you could remove the server from that point, it will not actually remove it from the domain.

If the server is dead and you want to use the same name, then do a disaster recovery installation on a new build with the same name. If you want to change the roles you could then remove the server correctly using add/remove programs.
