  • Exchange server address list service failed to respond

    Hi

    We have Exchange 2007 SP1 running on Enterprise 64-bit windows with 64-bit 2003 DC's

This server has the following roles, Hub Transport, Client Access & Mailbox

We have been trying to create a new accepted domain & email policy.

We added the new accepted domain with no problems.

Then created the email policy and received the following errors. This also happens when we try to create a new mailuser.

Unable to validate the filter: 'The Exchange server address list service failed to respond. This could be because of an address list or email address policy configuration error.'
When exchange was installed the domain level was 2000 native and a few weeks ago it was upgraded to 2003 both domain and forest.

Since the upgrade its the first time we have tried any exchange admin tasks but have been logging into mailboxes and owa fine since the raise.

I'm just wondering if raising the functional this has caused some sort of problem?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What does the email address policy do?
Exchange 2007 is a lot more picky about characters etc in the policy, therefore something you had before might be causing the problem.

      kosch,

This anomaly has been researched and verified to be a Leap Year Day bug in Exchange.

Simply restart your System Attendant service (now that we have passed Midnight UTC) and your system will behave normally.

See this official blog from Microsoft: http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/20...29/448282.aspx

      Good luck.

I thought it was the leap year bug, but the reference I saw had a different message. Hopefully the problem has now gone away, simply to live in Exchange community folklore.
