  • Exchange 2003 Migrate Question

Now I have finished link exchange 2003 to exchange 2007 in same exchange ou.
The mailbox can success transfer to exchange 2007 via shell command.
But now the GC(Global Catalog) and AD keep in exchange 2003 server, I would
to know how to transfer GC and AD to exisiting Exchange 2007 server. Also
the exchange 2003 will be unplug.

    Re: Exchange 2003 Migrate Question

One thing is it not recommended to have the GC DC on the same box as the Exchange Server. It is doable yes but by experience it is harder to recover from corrupt files etc if the GC & DC are on the same server.

here is couple links from a quick search on the net

      Re: Exchange 2003 Migrate Question

Is the Exchange 2003 server also a domain controller?
If so, then you need to remove Exchange from that server before you can remove/move the domain controller functionality that Exchange uses to another server. When Exchange is installed on a domain controller then Exchange will only use that domain controller for Exchange functionality.

You will need to have a separate machine for domain controller functionality. It is not supported to change the role of a server once Exchange is installed, so making the Exchange 2007 server a DC is not going to be possible.
