    Hello

i have an outlook2003 free busy problem with exchange2007 (clean install no migration)

while scheduling meetings from outlook2007 or web access free busy works and is displayed correctly.

if i schedule a meeting from outlook2003 the free/busy is not displayed.

i can create a meeting via outlook2007 and free busy is there... then check the same meeting via outlook2003 and its not visible. any idea/solution?

i have googled and found some posts about public folder reset
"How to Create a New Public Folder Database"
    original link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb123687.aspx

i am not usre if this is the correct solution.

    please advise thanks

Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2003 use different method for free/busy information.
When you installed Exchange 2007 did you tell it to include support for legacy versions of Exchange? If you did not then you need to ensure that you have a public folder database to begin with.

Have you upgraded to Exchange 2007 SP1? If not, then do so as it makes public folder management much easier.

You may have to create the system folders.

      thanks for your reply

"When you installed Exchange 2007 did you tell it to include support for legacy versions of Exchange?"

i did not install the exchange... and i have no one to ask if it was installed with this feature enabled. i just know that this exchange was installed 3 month ago from scratch. no upgrade.

how can i check if this feature is enabled?

"If you did not then you need to ensure that you have a public folder database to begin with. "

i can see a public folder (see screen shot) but i can not edit the properties...

i get an error. see pic

should i start with installing service pack1 and then do what you suggested?

        Re: exchange2007 and outlook2003 free/busy not displayed

I would start with an install of Exchange 2007 SP1 only to begin with. That will allow you to see if there are any public folders on the server.
You could also use PowerShell and run get-publicfolderstatistics. That will show you a list of the public folders.

You may not have to do the system folder reset. If you set the server to use public folder for OAB distribution then it may well create them for you. I haven't tested that, so it may not work.

            Re: exchange2007 and outlook2003 free/busy not displayed

finally i upgraded the memory on the exchange server.
            now i have 8Gb installed.

ok let me start with the problems i see:

every time i try to schedule a meeting with someone from the exchange2003sp2 i can't see the free/busy information.
i see this error in the event log from the exchange2007sp1

            Code:
Process 2764[w3wp.exe:/LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT/EWS-1-128483518819375000]: Microsoft.Exchange.InfoWorker.Common.Availability.PublicFolderRequest failed. The exception returned is Microsoft.Exchange.InfoWorker.Common.Availability.PublicFolderRequestProcessingException: The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.. The request information is http://server-name-domain-name.com/public/?Cmd=freebusy&start=2008-02-23T22:00:00Z&end=2008-04-05T21:00:00Z&interval=30&u=user.[email protected] The Availability service could not successfully retrieve Schedule+ free/busy data for one or more legacy Exchange mailboxes. To find the root cause of this error, increase the diagnostic logging level of the MSExchange Availability service.

i have googled and someone wrote the i should enable integrated windows authentication on the exchange2003sp2 public folder. i still have not done that i am waiting for some feedback from this forum first.

also here is the output for get-publicfolderstatistics

            Code:

              Re: exchange2007 and outlook2003 free/busy not displayed

i have just checked 2 test systems

              system 1:
              windows xp sp2 fully updated
              office 2003 with latest sp
connected to exchange server 2007sp1 on SITE A

i can successfully see the free/busy information from a user located on SITE B with the exchange 2003sp2

              system 2
              windows xp sp2 fully updated
              office 2007 latest updates also.
connected to exchange server 2007sp1 on SITE A (same as system1)
i can't see the free/busy information from a user located on SITE B with the exchange 2003sp2

so it should be something with how the office 2007 tries to get the data... any idea?

                Re: exchange2007 and outlook2003 free/busy not displayed

I don't see the free/busy system folder listed in the Public Folder list you have posted above. That would cause problems. You need to go on to ESM on the Exchange 2003 systems and add the Exchange 2007 server as a replica to the schedule plus free/busy system folder and its sub folders.

                  Re: exchange2007 and outlook2003 free/busy not displayed

i have checked the publicfolders on the exchange2003 and you are right the exchange2007 is not listed in the replica tab.

while clicking add a server the exchange2007 is not listed there...

how do i make it appear there?

                  thanks

                  EDIT:

ok the server is there listed... somehow i just did not see it... maybe because of the remote desktop delay...

anyway what folder should be replicated in order for the free/busy information to be available to the outlook2007 users from site A?

                  thank you

i also changed http to https in my browser but then i have to provide a username and password...

after providing my user and pw
i can see the free/busy information.

so if i am right the problem is that exchange2007 is trying to use HTTP and should use HTTPS for the free and busy information.
how can i change that setting?

                      thanks for any help

                        Problem Solved

                        here is the solution

disable ssl required on the /public website. /public, properties, document security, edit, uncheck ssl required

                        this solved the problem.
