  • Transfering MailBox Role

I have a exchange 2003 and a exchange 2007 multi role working together.

After moving several legacy mail boxes from exchange 2003 to 2007, i notice that the file page and processing as increased a lot in exchange 2007 ( 8GB Ram + 4 cores ).

I know that the ideal topology for Exchange 2007 is not Multi Role, that's why i want to implement a new server only for MailBox Role.

How can i do this ? How can i deploy a new Mail Box Role server and then transfer the mailboxes that already exists in the actual exchange 2007 to the new one, and then uninstall the old one ?

Can someone help me with this ?

    Kind Regards.

    Re: Transfering MailBox Role

    1. Install the mailbox role on the second Exchange 2007 server using GUI or shell:
    Setup.com /role:Mailbox /Mode:Install
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb125143.aspx
    2. Move mailboxes:

    3. Uninstall ONLY the mailbox role using the "Add or Remove Programs"
See the last paragraph (How to use Add or Remove Programs to modify an Exchange installation):
