  • exchange2007 setup does not tell you to install smtp connector.

    Hi

after installing yesterday exchange2007 and playing around with it.
i found out that my mails got stuck in the mail queue.

so checking some logs... etc i found out that i dont have an outgoing mail connector ok a little googling told me how to add this connector http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...2392c30a2.aspx

    and it solved the problem.

BUT i am a little disapointed from the exchange2007 setup. i remember from the exchange2003 setup that it tells you what to install... and yesterday at the ex2007 installation it did not tell me something about installing smtp service... ok sure we need it but what about a little warning

anyway i hope this information will save you some time

if i find the time to make a clean exchange2007 installation again i will update if adding the smtp service before the installation will create the send connector automatic...

Exchange 2007 has its own SMTP engine. You don't install the SMTP engine from IIS. If you install the IIS SMTP engine then you end up with two SMTP services on the machine.

Exchange 2007 setup does presume that you are going to be putting in an Edge server, which is a little unfortunate. I am currently preparing a blog post on how to setup a single Exchange server which may be released later this week.

Did you follow the task list inside Exchange Management Console when you first started up? That does most of the basic setup work for you.

so you mean i can remove the IIS smtp connector?

yes i followed it... and there are still some things in the list that i already have done. like install your server product key... already done that but the message is still there and i did not see much about outgoing mail connector...

it looks like a sale blog to me here use this MS technologie but you need this LIC for that feature...

Re: exchange2007 setup does not tell you to install smtp connector.

The Exchange management tool detects all Exchange servers that are unlicensed. Therefore if you have a trial version or a 32 bit version on the same domain, the management console will detect it.

You can remove IIS SMTP - it isn't required.
